FLORIDA STATE’S SEMINOLE SOLUTIONS TO OVERSEE AWARENESS FOR THE HAITI GRASS PROJECT

The Better Universe and Citizens, 501c3, is pleased to welcome Florida State’s Seminole Solutions, who will oversee the marketing of the Haiti Grass Project initiative. The Seminole Solutions is Florida State University’s premier student-run marketing agency working with real-world clients to produce solutions. The Haiti grass project, an initiative with origins in Tallahassee, plants grasses on eroded mountain slopes to reduce soil erosion in Haiti. Supported by numerous partners, including Rotarians, universities, churches, and individuals, Haitians have made significant strides in planting grass in Haiti.

Dr. Tawainga Katsvairo, the project director, explained the grasses with dense root systems  reverses land degradation to reduce mudslides during hurricanes, improves soil health, provides habitat for animals. The grass is harvested for livestock and sold to  provide much-needed income to the farmers. Board member on the project and FSU professor Emerita Dr. Fanchon Funk explained that the project relies on volunteers and donations. As a result, The Seminole Solutions will provide a critical role to bring awareness to the project.

The Director of Seminole Solutions, Taylor Golemme, and the Seminole Solution officer in charge of the Haiti Grass project Austin Paynter, both expressed optimism on the potential impact the project has for the overall economy in Haiti. FSU is a major partner on the Grass Project with faculty and students providing research and logistics. The Seminole Solutions is a division of the American Marketing Association.
